Hi Brett,
I photographed Conesticks whilst visiting Moreton Island off the coast of Brisbane. It doesn't occur where I live - in north Queensland - so I can only give you second-hand answer - seehttp://www.anbg.gov.au/abrs/online-resources/flora/stddisplay.xsql?pnid=44735 and click on Map "133" - reasonably widespread along the coast and tablelands.

Is this a very common plant? I know that this particular species is found in NSW but what part of the state?
