We moved into our new house at 5691 W. 9th Lane on the western side of the Palm Springs development in June 1957 a month before my 10th birthday. It was fun watching the homes across the street and on W. 10th Avenue being built right after we moved in and watching the final construction of Palm Springs Junior High that would open in September 1957. New homes were going up all over to the west and southwest of us but the farmlands on the west side of Ludlam Road (W. 12th Avenue) would remain for three or four more years. I was the oldest kid on the block except for other kids the same age as me north of W. 58th Street so I got to watch a lot of younger kids grow up over the years. And we had a lot of kids in our area - just on W. 9th Lane between W. 56th Place and W. 58th Street alone I can count up to approximately 35 kids in the 16 homes that were there.

This gallery contains old school photos of kids who grew up in my Palm Springs neighborhood. I am still in touch with some of them on Facebook and through this website when they write in to make comments. I have always thought that Palm Springs was a great place to grow up and I consider myself fortunate.

WANTED: yearbook images from DuPuis Elementary in the late 1950's and yearbook images from Immaculate Conception School in the early to mid 1960's. I prefer scans sent via e-mail but I am willing to scan your yearbook if necessary. All of the existing images are from the DuPuis Elementary yearbooks and there are many neighborhood kids missing because they went to Immaculate instead of DuPuis. The more kids I have in this gallery the better because it would truly reflect the neighborhood in the early to mid 1960's.
