OMG, I was 12 yrs old in 1960 and I lived next door in the Tudor House. Gene was the owner and Billie was his German Shepard dog. Gene befriended my family and I used to go out with Gene and Billie on his boat to go Bone fishing in Biscayne bay on the flats near the Julia Tuttle 36th st causway on the Miami Beach side.
I remember Armando was the cook and a car hop had two sons and she ijnvited me over her house to sleep over. Eileen, were you that car hop???

I am pretty sure that somewhere in that mix of different eateries after Billy's, one of them was "Broadway Joe's," Joe Namath's hamburger chain.

We drove through Billy's one night with Larry Libertore on the floorboard, under the steering wheel to look as if no one was driving, with Dale Armstrong telling him which way to turn the wheel (left was right and right was left). When we got around the back to the drive through, with no success on steering, we thought it wise to stop. Kenny Tompkins was also in the car. May God rest his soul.

I'm so glad that someone had a picture of this establishment as Billy's. Somehow that other picture with the Kelley's name just didn't look right. One of the favorite hangouts of the Ediaon gang. MEHS '57

Opened as Kelly's Hamburgers, and as a sister location to the original on LeJeune Road, Sam E. Kelly sold it after about two years of operation.

The next owner (most logically trying to save money on a new neon sign) changed the "KE" of Kelly's to "BI" for "Billy's"), although later owner Eugene Eising told me that this was not the name of the man from whom he and his partner purchased the drive-in.

Eising and his partner sold Billy's in the early 1960's, and the next owned renamed it "Sip and Sup". After a few more years of operation, it closed permanently as a restaurant.

The building was later used for marine sales and later an art gallery - only to be demolished in the early 1970's for the condos that stand there now.

It was located on the Southeast side of NE 79th Street and 12th Avenue, at the foot of the bridge of the North Bay Causeway (also known as the 79th Street Causeway or the Kennedy Causeway). Directly across the street was Mike Gordons's - a landmark for over 50 years.
