I remember my Dad taking me there as a kid because he used to work there as a student at the University of Miami in the 60s. I also remember the peep hole with the piratey "torture chamber". I would love to obtain one of those coffee mugs you all mentioned for him.

my Grandfather was a part owner with Mr Berg. My parents have many memories of going there and we have several of the mugs you are referring to.

I found a large coffee mug from the english pub at this restaurant with the saying "honour, fame, love and wealth may desert us but thirst is forever" and a queen elizabeth the 2nd coin glued on the bottom. Anyone know anything more about this or know someone who does?

I used to work as a waitress at the English Pub and for some reason what I strongly remember are the coat of arms that lined the entrance walls.

I found an article in the Miami Herald archives that said that the Jamaica Inn had salvaged and used the floors from the old Brickell mansion (501 Brickell Avenue). The mansion was razed in 1961. The floors were made of Dade County Pine and were in excellent condition at the time the Brickell mansion was being razed.

We had a vacation house on Key Biscayne from the early 60s to 90s, The English Pub was our favorite destination from my age of 8 to about 38, food was top of the line as was the owner, one of my fondest memories really, Mr. Berg was awesome, Key Biscayne ended when the pub did, but nothing remains the same

Thank you for posting, Nancy. I put Crandon Boulevard because that's the name of the road. Are you sure it's 320? I ask because that's at the intersection of Sonesta Drive which seem too far north from where I remember the Jamaica Inn's location.

Debbie, I don't know myself because I only go over to the key once a year if that. Perhaps some of the viewers more familiar with Key Biscayne will answer up. You might want to Google "Key Biscayne Restaurants" and see if anything pops up but without an exact street address it might be hard.

I grew up in the Perrine/Kendall area and started dating a GI from Homestead Air Force Base. On our first date, he took me as a favor, to my high school senior prom. My dad gave him $25.00 for our dinner, which covered steaks, him a drink, dessert and tip. What a deal and what a meal! Now 48 years later we are going to vacation in Key Biscayne and really wanted to find this restaurant, sounds like it is gone but is there another restaurant in its location?

Does anybody remember the "Secret Room", which you could view through a peephole in a little brass box? I think it was behind the bar. I looked through it once when I was just a little kid, and inside, hanging on the back wall, were two or three severed heads (fake, of course).

Wow, what memories. I lived on keyed Biscayne as a child until I was almost 9 until late 1960. Family went often. They gave you large half pennies from England as part of your change. My Dad would always let me keep it. Had my first Shirley Temple drink here.

Obituary - Donald L. Berg

BERG, Donald L. (Don), passed away peacefully at his home on February 25th, he was 87. Don was well known local developer, restaurateur and a resident of Key Biscayne for 61 years. He was born and raised on the family farm near Traverse City, Michigan.

After graduation from high school, he joined the Navy and took part in the Pacific Naval campaigns of 1944 and 45 and the early occupation of Japan. He was later commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1951.

Moving to Miami, he started his first business the next year, designing and manufacturing driftwood furniture and within years he began a career in commercial real estate sales and then development. His companies built offices, shopping centers, apartments, condominiums and bowling centers across the Southeastern states. He became involved in the restaurant business as a sideline but it became one of his many passions.

His most well known restaurants locally were the Jamaica Inn and English Pub, where he hosted Presidents, Royalty and an ongoing stream of celebrated personalities.

Don was involved with numerous charitable organizations and sat on many board of directors. He was a devoted family man and father.

He is survived by his son Don II, his daughters Billie Ann Berg and Helen Berg. He was predeceased by his wife Monique and grandson Justin Kleinpeter.

A memorial service will be held today at 3 pm at St. Christopher's by the Sea on Key Biscayne. The public is invited. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a charity of one's choice .

How I miss this place. During the 60's as a high school student at Gables High, we used to take our dates there knowing the beer would be flowing as we rang the bell that was placed at each table. This let the waitress know we needed more beer. The food was also excellent and the drive was short. Many memories of this place.
