Thank you to Robert Bowman for contributing this great old image. Robert states that this building was later occupied by the original Ollie's Burgers.

Glad to see the building still stands in 2016. Across the street, from where this picture was taken, was a popular bar, although I cannot remember the name. You can still see the entry. (The white Deco-Post Modern-ish structure seen on Google.)

This is about four years late to post, but I do believe Mr. Rosenblatt's first name was Charles. His son Steve and I used to hang out.

It WAS Hickory House that I was trying to remember, and that lounge I spoke of was originally "The Famous Door".

My grandfather, Morris "Moe" Wolf, owned a restaurant by that name in the 1940s in Miami. Does anyone have information that might confirm this?

Does anyone remember the Rosenblatt's name (the father) who owned the Sunoco gas stations?

My friend from Beach High worked for Ollie when he sold his name to Lums and we had so much of his seasonings in my apartment because she worked in the test kitchen. Still don't what was in it. It never tasted quite the same without the cigar butt ashes in the meat. Ollie was actually quite a nice man and so was his wife. I too went to Beach and landed on his turf often.

I heard Ollie used to tell the kids to get the hell out if they asked for condiments...

Robert - I well remember Sonny's. The original owner was Sonny Capone! The son of the late (long-time) owner "Chickie" owns a Texaco station in North Miami!

The actual address for the Trocadero is 301-23rd Street, and its early-50's phone number was 5-0551. The owners called it the "Aristocrat of Kosher Restaurants". It's sister restaurant was called Harfenist - a dairy, vegetarian and sea food restaurant located on Washington Avenue at 14th Street. Their phone number was 58-2058...

You are exactly correct on your locations. Do you remember the Sonny's pizza delivery Trucks with the ovens on the back? The pizza was always hot. But sometimes a little bent. Those guys drove like maniacs. I think a lot of Miami Beach's finest frequented the lounge there so they were cut some slack.

You are looking West toward Dade Boulevard on the North side of 23rd Street. Ollie's was in the farthest West storefront within this building. In much later years, the Trocadero was an auto parts store. The street sign is on the NE corner of Liberty Avenue, where Sonny's Restaurant and Lounge was located.

Immediately West of the building in view was a nightclub in a tiny building, then a Sunoco gas station owned by the Rosenblatt family when I was at Beach High (I graduated in 1970).

Diagonal from Ollie's (or across from the Sunoco station) was the Nite Owl lounge, bordering the Dade Canal.

The building to the right of the Trocadero was the Hickory House (or was it Hickory Hut) Restaurant... and later burned.

Ollie's was in a storefront in the walkway on the left. We used to go there on lunch break from Beach High .Ollie was quite a character some of the kids would ask for condiments just to fire him up. Ollie said his Ollieburgers were perfect just the way he made them and needed nothing else. I graduated in 74'. Lums bought Ollie's receipe just about that time.
