1986 - Dadeland Mall

Kendall Drive and the Palmetto Expressway, Miami

Viewed west to east like the other Dadeland aerial photo. Three new anchor stores (Saks, The Limited and Lord & Taylor) have been added plus a large parking garage has been constructed between the mall and the canal on the left side.

other sizes: small original auto

I worked in Burdines at Dadeland for 6 months in 1986...so I might even be in this picture inside the mall!

I still remember the commercial; black background and an animation of a lady with long hair going around in circles while her hair blossomed multi-colored flowers that got bigger and bigger and you would hear singing, DaaaadeLaaaaaannd! LOL! My best memory of Dadeland Mall is being there one day I took off of work, suddenly the Mall got more and more crowded until you could barely walk. Then I overheard someone say Elizabeth Taylor would be at Burdines so I squirmed my way to the third row of people. Gorgeous, funny, charming, can't say enough about her! I do regret not knowing beforehand so that I could have taken pictures. Somewhere I do have the news coverage on one of my recorded dvds...

I used to be a manager at the Burdines Home Gallery. After Hurricane Andrew, the store was destroyed and consequently renovated and bacame the Burdines Home Gallery. The restaurant was closed when JM closed and did not re-open. I used to go to the restaurant with my grand mother and have some great memories of it.

If you squint really hard, I bet you can see me standing outside covered in Duran Duran pins.

My brother was a waiter at the Suncoast..it was a job that lasted only a summer in 1987....prior to that it was the Gulfstream...which as I recall had a sit down counter and very bright looking.....the Suncoast was an evening place and was darker.....now I believe the Burdines home gallery opened sometime after the hurricane though I do not know if Suncoast fizzled out well before Jordan Marsh went out of business.....someone mentioned busy Christmases and I remember vividly how busy that mall was during the Christmas season.....it was beautiful

Hope that helps?

I'm curious if anyone has memories of the Suncoast Lounge, which was on the 3rd floor of Jordan Marsh in Dadeland. Any details such as the year it opened, whether it remained there after Jordan Marsh became Burdine's, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
