1964 - the north side of MIA looking east at the Pan Am Maintenance Base and Eastern in the background

Miami International Airport

This aerial image is looking due east. Pan American operated three large maintenance hangars on the north side of Pan American Field/Miami International Airport for decades but created a new maintenance base at Idlewild/JFK to handle their new B707s. This caused thousands of Pan Am mechanics in Miami to either transfer to JFK or be laid off as activities wound down at their Miami maintenance base as the prop aircraft departed the fleet.
