1960 - Frank 'n Bun and south portion of Northside Shopping Center

NW 79 Street and 27 Avenue, Dade County, Florida


Hooray, finally a photo with the Frank 'n Bun on the southwest corner of NW 79th Street and 27th Avenue (under the white down arrow). No traces of Funland Amusement Park which was next to it deeper on the corner can be seen. A trailer dealer is to the west of Frank 'n Bun. Northside Shopping Center is in the foreground on the north side of NW 79th Street.

I would ride my bike from Miami Beach wth Friends to ride the wild mouse and the bumper cars at Funland Park.

I remember every Wednesday my mother Donita would take my Sister Toni Ann and I to Funland Park because that was the day 5 pepsi cola bottle caps would get you on a rideand boy did I bring a lot of caps with me. My mother would also go on the tilt-or-world with us because the more you leaned the quicker and faster it would go and she enjoyed that. I also looked forward to wednesdays in Miami.

I was born in 1956 but i can remember my older borthers taking my sister and I to Funland. I know the Wild Mouse probably wasn't much but it sure made an impression on us litte kids. What year was it torn down? and does anyone have pictures.

1960 was about the last year of operation for the Frank 'n' Bun. Soon after, a Royal Castle would be built on that corner.

The strip of stores that stood directly across the street from the Frank 'n' Bun [on the South portion of the shopping center property; running East to West on NW 79th Street] was the original "Northside Shopping Center", and home to Lien Chemicals, among the other busineses.

A Frank 'n' Bun was opened on South Dixie Hwy. in the early part of the 1960's in deep South Dade, but I don't know if there was any connection to the original, which opened around 1949.
