I grew up in hialeah 7280 w 10th ave. There was a Quik chek. Forget what street. I've been in. Nj. Since 96. There are quick checks everywhere. Can't be same ones!

This sure brings back lots of great memories of this time period. In the 60's I lived on the southeast coast in Stuart, FL and we had a Qwik-Chek store there which later changed to Winn-Dixie. Every time I would ask people if they remember the old Qwik-Chek store didn't seem to remember them but I KNEW they once existed so I was happy to discover this site! Our sign was exactly like the one shown here and I vividly remember shopping there back in the 60's but it was sometime in the early 70's it changed to Winn-Dixie. There also used to be an Eagle-Army-Navy store next to them and as a kid it was always s treat to be able to peruse all their cool "stuff". Next to that was an Eckerd Drug store and we would occasionally use the television tube testing stations they always placed near the entry/exits in drug stores back then. Those were the days!

Hello again. Actually thinking about it the sign was changed to Winn-Dixie in 1958. I was transferred to the store in South Miami ( Where the Wendys is today) and left the company in 1959. One of the gentleman who installed the Winn-Dixie sign was Mr.Mew whose son Doug was a bagboy at the store and became a Metro Dade po;iceman. It was changed before I was transferred so it was most likely 1958. and yes that is the Red Bird bar on the lower left part of the picture.

Larry, did you mean 1967 instead of 1957? The reason I ask is that this photo was labeled 1960, 3 years after 1957, and it still says "Kwik Chek."

Thanks.

Don

You are right Don, I was the asst. mgr of that store in 1957 when they changed the sign to Winn -Dixie. I was fresh back from the service. It was basically a stand alone store with a SuperX Drug attached. At that time the parent company was Winn-Lovett, the name was changed to Winn-Dixie after the purchaed the Dixie Home chain of about 144 stores in the Carolina's

I am from the 1980's,and lived at 49 St. and 62nd ave. The shell was a standard/chevron, and Sid's Bar was across the street. I have not been to the area in 21 years, so when I saw from the virtual earth website of what the area behind the Winn-Dixie looks like I was shocked. Miami truly is the magic city, but you have to be like me to truly appreciate that defination.

I believe the parent corporation was Winn-Dixie and that they had grocery stores in northern Florida and elsewhere operating as Winn-Dixie and stores in South Florida operating as Kwik-Chek. I know they had both names going at the same time and eventually they decided to operate under one name. I could be wrong but that's my recollection.

I think Winn Dixie and Kwik Chek were interchangable.

The store is still there, but is now a Winn Dixie. It has a strip mall built out on either
side. I grew up 3 blocks from there and yes, I remember the green stamps too. Some days I'd have a green tongue from licking those infernal things. The shell station is
still there too, only they moved across the street. My brother still lives in our old family home, on Ludlum and SW 43 Street.

I did not write that original comment but was at CP from 70-73 and knew Mr. Heilberg. He was one of those teachers you do not appreciate until years later, at least for me.

Whene you were at Coral park, did you know a Mr. Heilberg?

Wow...another old great "blast from the past". This Kwik Chek is where I had my first real job as a bag boy back in 1964-65? Does anyone remember collecting the Top Value Stamps? God, my mother used to make me sit for hours to lick & stick those things. There also used to be a Top Value redemption store next to this Kwik Chek and an Army-Navy store where I bought my first pair of Levi's jeans. How cool!!
