1965 - the Dixie Drive-In Theatre at 14601 S. Dixie Highway (US 1), Miami

14601 S. Dixie Highway (US 1), Dade County, Florida

The view is looking south from the median of US 1. These images should be popular with the kids from the SW section of Dade County. They make one wonder how many youngsters fell in love, not to mention lust, at this fine establishment and ended up getting married?

The pines are still there; alas, the Texaco is now a Starbucks!

I remember going to see the Publix when it opened - if it is the one I think it is (or was?) it was huge, and had a restaurant in the front. I still remember people talking about the drive-in it replaced - unfortunately I do not remember it, just the one on Bird Rd. and some off the Palmetto near all the furniture stores between 37th and Golden Glades.

The Texaco, even that row of Australian Pines were there for many years after even the Publix was built in its place (around 1982).
