I don't know if this was a girlie place back in 1963 because I was too young. It was named Trader John's in the early 1970s when I saw the beautiful porn film star Marilyn Chambers dance there. Marilyn Chambers passed away on April 12, 2009 in Santa Clarita at the age of 56.

It is now called Club Rollies or something similar.

Still called Climaxxx in March of 2019, according to Google Maps. But now, Club LEXX. Not sure if it's the same structure.

Could be wrong, but it seems to me that in 1950-51-52 it was known as "The Jet."
Anybody remember the Jet? It may not have been in this same building as the Carosel, but it was in that same area. The building looks the same. I think the Jet got it's name from the Opa-Locka Airport because the Marine and Navy air wings were still operating there. ("Master's Field," and "Mainside.")

my name is Dino,i lived in Trader Johns and would drive back and forth in the early 60s between T.JS nd the Climax, the bouncer at the climax was called Billy, they collected $1 dollar to get in the 60S then finally $5 bucks later in 70s the bosses were Stan / joe,Stans mom Rose would always be out side collecting the money, she was a great lady.but i always thought that Trader Johns was in Hialeah on east 57/58 st and east 4 ave?It was all fixed up with tikis and grass cloth on all the walls, had a pool table there, lost a lot. across the street almost from Trader Johns and north a little was Mintons dump.those were the days ,if you went to the climax im sure you know me.

Since there was a shooting,(very rare in those days), at Trader John's, the management changed the name of the club to The Climax.

That A&W you mentioned may still be there. There's a place that's an outdoor restaurant and they feature A&W. It would be a few blocks south of this picture, on the east side of 27 Ave, across from what's now Miami Dade College. It looks like it could date from the 1950s. I've had lunch there a few times in the last year or two.

I snuck out my bedroom window to go to Trader John's with my neighbor who was a Carhop at the A&W just up the street 1965

Yep. It was "Trader John's" - the scene of my first use of counterfeit I.D. A successful adventure, albeit somewhat scary. Ordered a (ugh) "7 & 7", just because I thought it sounded like I knew what I was doing! I think I had two drinks, but I was so uncomfortable trying to "look older" that I left after that.

Wasn't this Trader John's or Trader Vic's back in the 60's?

Thanks again Martha for keeping me straight. : ) Someone has to know what it was in the early 70's because I know it wasn't the Carousel at that time. Don

the Bushwacker Lounge was off of Douglas Road (SW 37th Ave) near the Old Colleseum
