Kendall Drive and SW 65 Court, Dade County


Thanks to Ann Rotolante for this image. Ann was born in Doctors Hospital in 1966, grew up in South Miami, and left the area in 1995 for Dayton, Ohio. The above image is from a 1963 Herschell Gordon Lewis film titled "Goldilocks and the Three Bares", one of numerous films that he filmed in South Florida. Goldilocks and her gentleman friend were enroute to a nudist camp in the film when they passed by this intersection.

I think the nudist colony was called Sunny Palms if my memory serves me. I can't remember how far west it was of this intersection, but it was sold to Dupont by the owner and became a test site for its paint products.

If the "nudist camp" was several miles east and south of Homestead General airport then I knew it well.

We often used it as a center upon which to practice 'airwork', i.e. turns intended to keep a specific distance from a point. A very interesting point.

I grew up on 92 St, about two blocks from this site. I revisited the area last summer. It's built up, but not as much in this area as one might think. It's still a very quiet neighborhood, with some of the same houses that I remember from the mid-sixities. A lot of the other homes have been knocked down and huge $$ million homes have replaced them. I attended Pinecrest Elementary back then. I remember that exotic birds from the Parrot Jungle used to roost in our trees until their dinner whistle sounded at 4 p.m.

When I was first married my inlaws lived in this general area I learned to drive along Kendall drive I used to go down as far as the dirt road would love to see a picture of that intersection now.
