1963 - Lindsey Lumber yard building and US 1 looking southbound at intersection of SW 104th Street

US1 and SW 104 Street, Dade County, Florida


This shot was taken in conjunction with zoning approval for a Hot Shoppes at the intersection of SW 104th Street (where the car going westbound is on the left and the truck going eastbound is to the right of the rail car). Was the Hot Shoppes ever built?

In Reply to John: This photo would have been taken facing SSW from about s.w.100th Street, looking toward te s.w.104th street intersection. That intersection is where you see a Car crossing the Rail Road Tracks to go west on s.w.. 104th Street. The Building you see is part of Lindsey Lumber. This is where Williamson Cadillac is today.

Thank you Ron for the information that you provided.

T: no I don't, not on this site. Most of these images were scanned at low resolution (72dpi) and were barely larger that what you see on screen and sometimes smaller. Printing usually requires 200 to 300dpi and the image should be considerably larger in size than what I got them at. I'm sorry.

The main building you are looking at was the part of the Lindsey Lumber Yard. You enter from s.w. 104th street. After Lindsey Lumber closed the building on the right became the Mayflower Moving & Storage building. It is currently the Atlas Van Lines, 7700 SW 100th St, Miami, FL. The building where the train car is was later torn down to build the new Williamson Cadillac Dealership.

I remember Dr. Applebaum. He had a large portrait of himself in his waiting room. He has been replaced by a dollar store.

I'm glad you mentioned the lunch time lingerie models at the Black Angus down there because they did that at the Palm Springs Mile Black Angus in Hialeah in the early 70's and what a visual treat that was. I mentioned it in my Hialeah commentary gallery.

That was my corner!! We lived around three blocks behind, on 104th between US1 and Galloway (87th Ave). Black Angus was on the corner (became a Fuddruckers in the 80s and not sure what is there now). Does anyone remember the lunchtime lingerie models at Black Angus?? Jefferson's became K-Mart (may have been Montgomery Ward for a short time in between?) and Winn Dixie/Kwik Chek. There was Dr. Applebaum's office (the pediatrician) and also Beauty Fair, where my mom had her hair done every week. Thanks so much for this site -- I've found so many memories!! Just found it tonight while trying to find pics of Dressel's Dairy Farm (thanks!) and Fun Fair on 79th Street (anyone?).

It was definititely Black Angus and Jefferson's but I don't remember a doctor's office. I lived on 104th and 71st in the 70's. Went there many, many times!

Black Angus was there in the late 60's to early '70's, with Jefferson's where K-Mart is now. I don't recall there ever being a Hot Shoppes there; I think they built at US1 and Bird Road.

There also used to be a doctors office in the same center. I dont know if it was a family practice or a pediatrician, but The Dr's name was Dr. Applebaum. I remember him from when I was a kid. I wonder what ever happened to him?

I remember the Jefferson's and Black Angus from the early 70's. We lived off Ludlum just north of Bird Rd, and went there to eat and shop along with many treks to Dadeland.

I think it was a Black Angus nearly at this site w/ a Jefferson's and a Kwik Chek farther back. On closer inspection. I think this building was torn down and the Black Angus was more off the highway. Black Angus was definitely not this close to the train tracks.
