Note the streetcar track with overhead electric power on the right side. County Causeway was renamed to MacArthur Causeway after World War II.

Ray...you'll see government do something smart like electric street-cars between downtown and the beach, when you see "chickens with lips". In the 1950's GM and Firestone or was it Goodyear...conspired to "Do Away" with most electric street-cars in almost all US cities. This so that they could convert "Mass-Transit" to Buses built by GM that ran on Diesel (fossil-fuel) refined by big-oil and use rubber tires made with petroleum made by the big tire manufactures. I can't for the life-of-me imagine what their motivation was.....My Dad and Nana, before passing away, told me that they rode electric street-cars from Miami to the beach.

Wow, signs of mass transit between Miami Beach and the mainland! I wonder when someone will get that idea again.

I remember hearing some good news... the two high bridges that replaced the MacArthur drawbridge are spaced so that there could be MetroRail tracks between them. Maybe some day.
