1952 - Mrs. Rayback's 4th Grade Class at Melrose Elementary School

Billy Long is in the top row, third from the right. Billy remembers that others in this class were Jerry Coleman, Jerry Gardner, Billy Godfrey, Jeanette Gustovich, Joan Stein, Helen Calibreeze, Don Franklin and Jimmy Peacock. According to the guest post, her sister Betty is the 3rd girl from the right in the 2nd row from the bottom.

Wow, I wonder where they all are now? Most of these kids would have graduated from high school in 1960.

I attended Melrose from '64-'67. Mr. Seawall was principal then. Mrs. Blake was my 1st grade teacher, and Mrs. James my 3rd. My 2nd grade teacher's name escapes me at the moment. Mrs. Blake later became principal - she was one of my favorite teachers ever.

I went to Melrose back in 1972 for kinder and in 1976-1978 for 4th to 6th grade.
I also would love to see pictures from that time.

I went to Melrose from 1950 thru 1954. My 4th grade teacher was Mrs Collums and my 5th grade teacher was Miss Cook. Does anyone remember Mrs Bragg and her assistant Mrs Haygood. I was also at Kendall Children,s Home in the early 40,s

kinder time indeed Marvin...notice how the girls and boys are dressed and they are neat and clean. Try to put this photo up against a 2007 class of 4th graders and explain to me how far we have come (or not). All of us kids (4) went to Melrose and graduated from Jackson. I live in Texas now but spent 33years in the Magic City
before moving on....like everyone else it seems.

I went to Melrose back in 1938, where I started in the first grade, we moved after that way up on NW 49th street and went to Gladeview elementry till it burnded down. We moved back to allapattah in 1941. I went from the third grade to the sixth at Allapattah elementry and then Andrew Jackson Jr. Sr. High School...grades 7 to 12......I moved to Cape Florida in the ninth grade and went to Coconut Grove for a year, Miami Tech in the tenth and then moved out of miami, to Alva, Lee County. I spent my last two years at alva, Joining the USAF shortly after gradution for a 20 year tour.....mlm

2nd row from bottom and 3rd girl from right is my sister Betty.
She graduated in 1959(?) from Miami Jackson and will be 68
on August 17, 2007...I am amazed this picture is here.
When I went there from 61-67, the pricipals were Mrs Myler and then Mr Seawall
