The "new" Eastern's original management erroneously made statements in the press and on their website that "their" building (Building 5A) was the original Eastern Operations center, which was not true because Eastern's Flight Ops and their Commercial Computer Center, among other departments, were in Building 11. I know because I worked in the EAL Computer Center in the latter part of 1973. Buildings 11 and 16 (Ivory Tower) were demolished over a decade ago and the eastbound ramp for 36th Street to the Airport Expressway (SR 112) now occupies the former site of Building 11. Building 5A, in the photo, was home to Eastern's financial and accounting divisions and since the original Eastern died in 1991 the airport's Aviation Department has occupied it with numerous divisions and employees working there. I suspect that Eastern leased a partial floor in the building and paid the county to have the "Eastern" sign on the exterior.
