This photo was taken looking south in the far northeast corner of Miami International Airport next to LeJeune Road and the Airport Expressway eastbound ramp from NW 36th Street. The new Airport Expressway ramp (for decades the ramp started on the east side of LeJeune Road causing major traffic congestion at the LeJeune Road - NW 36th Street intersection) took a portion of the land formerly occupied by Bldg. 11, which was identical to surviving Bldg. 5A. Building 11 housed Eastern Airlines' Flight Operations department (3rd floor) and Commercial Computer Operations (2nd floor) and other offices on the 1st and 4th floors. Building 5A, now housing numerous Miami-Dade Aviation Department divisions and formerly housing Eastern Airlines accounting and finance offices, is the sole remaining former Eastern Airlines building on the eastern portion of the large former Eastern Airlines headquarters and maintenance base at Miami International Airport. The yellow rectangle seen on the left side of Bldg. 5A used to be the 2nd floor walkway connector to the south side of Bldg. 16, the Eastern "Ivory Tower" building, that housed Eastern's corporate headquarters. Bldg. 11, now gone, had an identical 2nd floor walkway connector to Bldg. 16, on the north side of Bldg. 16.
