1984 - the first British Airways Concorde (G-BOAC) departure flight from Miami International Airport

Runway 27R, Miami International Airport, Florida

The British Airways Concorde started service from London-Heathrow (LHR) to Miami International via Washington-Dulles (IAD) the day before on March 27, 1984. The Concorde almost always remained on the ground overnight and returned to London-Heathrow (LHR) via Washington Dulles (IAD). Concorde service to Miami ended on March 31, 1991. This was not the first Concorde departure from MIA because the Concorde demo aircraft 002 came in to MIA ten years earlier on June 14, 1974 from Boston. It landed on runway 9-left with huge throngs of people watching from outside the airport's fence line for miles from the northwest corner to the eastern end of the Eastern Airlines maintenance base along NW 36th Street. It taxied to an end gate on the western half of Concourse 7 (eastern half added later - later Concourse B, now part of Concourse D), was handled by Eastern Airlines personnel, and departed later in the day back to Boston.
