11415 South Dixie Highway, Miami, Florida


Thank you to Duane Zimmerman for contributing a scan of his old Flame Restaurant matches. According to Duane, it was located in the Suniland Plaza and they had a piano bar there. He says that it burned down in the mid 1970's and reopened as a Pumpernick's restaurant. I restored a postcard image of the front of the restaurant and it is located in this gallery at: http://www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/153494410

Thank you everyone for your comments about The Flame so the rest of us have a better idea of how it was back then.

I was sitting in the Flame's Piano Bar one evening in the early '60's.
I had just heard a new song by the Beatles and really liked it. I asked the piano player if he knew "Hey Jew?" He laughed and said, "Do you mean "Hey Jude?"
( I had only heard the new song once and wasn't sure of the title. ) Anyway, he not only played the song, he sang the song and did it well. Lots of good ol' memeries of the Flame Restaurant. Miss it!

My Uncle (E.L.Cotton). Along with some of his friends were the original owners.

It eventually became another Pumpernick's restaurant.

Great place to eat.

That lasted for quite a few years.
