Billy Potter lived next door to us on Poinciana Court when we lived there from 1976 to 1980. He was the son of Dr. Potter, a long-time Miami Lakes dentist. A group of us took turns sailing in the high winds created by Hurricane David which skirted close by on the east coast of South Florida.
Billy Riggs lived 3 doors down from us and he was the son of Bill Riggs who owned Miami Helicopter Service at Opa-locka Airport and Julie Riggs, a career elementary school teacher at Miami Lakes Elementary School. Bill and Julie are still friends and we see each other occasionally.
We had been on vacation at a cottage on a remote lake in Ontario, Canada when they anticipated that the hurricane would hit Miami. I flew home by muself on an Eastern Airlines L1011 from Syracuse, NY to Miami to secure our home but the hurricane veered further to the north instead of northwest and it was a wasted trip, except for the excellent sailing on the lake behind our home.
