Early to mid 1970's - The Hasta Restaurant on Douglas Road in Coral Gables

2665 S.W. 37th Avenue (Douglas Road), Coral Gables, Florida

The Hasta was famous due to patronage by President Richard Nixon, his wife Patricia and Bebe Rebozo and his wife during his terms in office and afterwards. Thank you to Joe Wasik for contributing this great old image. Thank you to Robyn Noelle for providing the exact street address. Thank you also to Robyn Noelle who provided an image of a matchbook cover for Oscar's Hasta Manana Grill, the predecessor for The Hasta which is located at http://www.pbase.com/image/165340132 .

Originally called "Edwardo's Hasta Manana" owned by Edwardo Disano. He later built the "Shadows" in North Miami but couldn't use his name because of agreement involved in sale of "Hasta". He was the consummate proprietor who roamed the dining room and greeted the guests making them all feel important.

I was 20 yrs. old and used to meet my Uncle Frank there (1974) First place with class I ever drank at.
All Frank's friends were great guys (older than me, but not old) and a lot of fun.
Beck's beer and Marlboro cigarettes after a great lunch.

My wife and I used to go there in early 70s. I remember Joe Donato jazz trio, (shown on the sign in photo). After Donato, came a piano bar duo Frank and Jan DeFabio. I used to get up and guest-sing. Way before Karaoke days!
When I pass the area these days I try to guess where The Hasta used to be. To the other Guest comment: Was it your house or The Hasta at 27th Lane? What's there now on the old Hasta site? I'd like to be able to point and say ''right there!" is where we had the fun in the old days.

My house was just next block to the restaurant at 27th lane and 37th avenue.

I remember the times President Nixon will visit the restaurant.
Back them the only thing we could afford was Burger King.

My Mom & Dad used to eat here all the time. Usually, we were forced to eat Kentucky Fried Chicken, BUT, every now & then we would get LUCKY & get to have Burger King!! I HATE KFC to this day!!!

This restaurant became a Tony Roma's in 1979 and later burned to the ground. I started working for Roma Corporation in 1979 right after the restaurant opened. The company at the time was owned by Clint Murchison (Dallas Cowboys) and Jack Peeples a Miami lawyer. Eventually the head offices moved across the street. Ultimately, they moved to Dallas. I have fond memories of Tony, he was a unique gentleman. Wish I could remember the name of his boat! Kim
