1963 From an old postcard

1963 - various Tyler's Restaurants in Miami and Dade County

Miami and Dade County, Florida

From an old postcard. Tyler's had the best darn Key Lime desserts I have ever devoured in the last 60+ years of my life. Some restaurants have come somewhat close but never as good as what I had many of at Tyler's. See the comments below to bolster my opinion.

The table and chairs in my kitchen where I am sitting right now came from the Tylers in South Miami when my father-in-law worked there as a cook.

My grandfather was A.M. Tyler, mother Frances Almera Tyler, and father Louis Germain. I grew up in Tyler's restaurants and fondly remember scooping chocolate pudding into bowls and eating honey buns. My first job was bussing tables at the South Miami location, which my Dad managed. So many memories come flooding back. Thank you, Don, for this wonderful site.

My first job was at Tyler's in Coral Gables....a great start to a career in Hotel Sales and Marketing. Wonderful dinners for .99 and a Tbone steak for $1.25. A shy girl from 8th street built confidence and met the father of her kids, way back in 1961. Wonderful memories!

We lived in Biscayne Park in 1963 - 1964. We ate once a week at the Tyler's on Biscayne Blvd. with our one year old daughter and two elderly neighbors. We loved Tyler's and always had the Key Lime Pie. Our baby daughter sat in a highchair and ate like an adult. We left Miami in the fall of 1964, but we'll never forget this restaurant.

My husband grew up in Miami and talks about this restaurant and the french dressing there. He said a very kind waiter gave his mother the recipe once, but when she passed they lost the recipe. If any one knows the recipe for the french dressing- please share :)

I will never forget this Restaurant the best Fried chicken and hot banana bread. This was my favorite place to go as a child my Parents took us there all the time. Sorry they went out of business it would had made it big now a days.

A.M. Tyler, Jr. was my dad. And we ate in all of the Tyler's restaurants all the time. I loved the Banana Bread too and I think the Miami Herald printed the recipe a few times. You could probably search their archives. My dad's sister died about a year ago and I inherited a ton of memorabilia - like menus and newspaper ads and reviews of the restaurant - pretty cool! I believe the image in the top left of the post card was the Tyler's on Biscayne Boulevard and NE 124th Street in North Miami. It was later a Chinese Restaurant (that occasionally got raided for back-room gambling) and the site now houses a building containing Fed-Ex/Kinko's.

My mother, rest her soul, worked for Tylers for many years. She started as a server at the Flagler store. Later when we moved to the North Dade area, she worked at the one on Biscayne Blvd. just south of Keystone Point. She later became the head hostess there. She said Colonel Sanders himself stopped by to have, of all things, fried chicken. Claimed he was just checking out the competition. Uh-huh.

Memories of banana bread for free in the bread basket, delicious fried chicken and my dad paying a total of about $5 total for dinner for a family of five. Lived in Keysone Point next door from 1959-1964. Great memories of old Miami

Anyone happen to have the Tylers banana bread recipe???

Not only the best banana bread but the best French dressing. My mom got the recipe and made it for us at home. At the Gables location, when we had the whole family, we would sit at the round booth on the left in the corner behind the cash register. It was my favorite place to eat in the 50's and 60's.

My first job was at Tyler's at the Bird Road Shopping Center.Started out as a busboy and worked my way to cook by the Summer of 70.I practically lived at Carrol Music in my spare time.Tyler's always had the best Banana Bread.A friends family bought it in the mid 70's,but it was never the same.

We used to go to Tyler's in the Gables almost every Sunday night after church when I was at Gables High and after, when I was home from UF. We ALWAYS had the key lime pie. It was the best ever. We had a number of fraternity boys in our group... If you ate the "delta" of your pie first, someone else would grab it from you.

I ate at the Tylers in Coral Gables, great menu, great food. I think I remember loaves of banana bread at the checkout. Can't find a place like that anymore.

Thank you, thank you, thank you - I've been saying that since the 1950's when I devoured it after every meal at Tyler's. They also served it as a bisque in a sundae glass and it was so good. The closest to Tyler's I've ever had was served at Jon's Steak House on Red Road in Hialeah in the 1970's but they closed long ago and no one, not even down in the Keys where you would think they would know how to do it, has come close since.
