From a postcard

Postcard for the original Five O'Clock Club at 215 22nd Street, Miami Beach

215 22nd Street, Miami Beach, Florida

Any club on Miami Beach that offered free drinks at 5 AM these days would go bust in a week. See comments below regarding this club versus the later Martha Raye nightclub of the same name and different location.

My grandfather, Mike Westerman owned this club! Great to see this old pice of history. I have a picture of my grandfather with Buddy Lazar, Joe D., and a few other celebs hanging out there.

Thank you Rod for clarifying which Five O'Clock club this was. I've changed the description.

This postcard was from the "original" Five O'Clock Club, 215 22nd St, Miami Beach, *not* the one later operated by Martha Raye at the corner of 20th and Collins Ave.

This club was co-owned by my Grandfather, Sam Barken. Thanks for posting it.

This club originally was called Martha Raye's Five O'Clock Club in the late 40's - the entertainer lent her name to the enterprise - located on the NW corner of 20th Street and Collins Avenue.

Upstairs were some "offices" for the S&G ["Stop and Go"] syndicate - basically, a bank of phones for your friendly, neighborhood bookies...
