Thank you Candace, and the others too, for posting your memories and description of the beach. I never went there but we went to Matheson Hammock many times when I was growing up in the 50's and early 60's. Your descriptions of what was there is beneficial to the folks reading the comments under the photo.

I remember paying to get in Tahiti Beach. It was sort of like a huge basin or salt water pond with a diving board or maybe a floating pad in middle. Rocks ringed it from the ocean. Had bathrooms, some mangroves out side of beach. The last time I went there was 1966 with a date and they had just started building these huge estate homes past tahiti on the inlet or beach. Now its all built up and totally changed.

I remember it being a private beach, and my dad's recollection is that he felt it was both private and restricted. My memory is from at least as far back as the very early 70's, and probably from the late 60s. We could have been wrong back then about Tahiti Beach, but the fact is we never went there, though I can remember going to Matheson as far back as 1958. We moved to Coconut Grove (tigertail and calusa) in 1956 from a house just west of Tropical Park where we first lived in Miami beginning in 1953, the year I was born. By the way, I remember shooting at quail in CocoPlum just as they started developing homes (1972 maybe?), before any were occupied. I remembered thinking, since the quail would be destroyed anyway by the development, I would spare them the suffering of starvation and predation once their cover was gone, and enjoy some sport. But the first shot was so loud, I was afraid someone back in the residential area west of Cutler might call the cops and I left. I was a terrible wing shot on quail anyway.

We use to go to Tahiti Beach, and Matheson Hammock in the 50s, they were great places. The Hammock was where i had my 1st experence with a Barracuda, it didn't realize that screen was to keek them out!

I remember going to this beach in the '60's !! Loved it ! It was considered "upscale" from Matheson Hammock" but we had to pay to get in, so going to Tahiti Beach was always special. Does anyone else remember this beach ?
