10-04-05 st andrews

We started early, jumped in the car, and hit the road. It wasn't a day I was entirely looking
forward too. And IKEA lived up to it's tough new reputation as we were witness to a heated
argument before we had even reached the cheap plastic lighting aisle. Joy. But, eventually, it
was mission accomplished as we managed to settle on a sofa for the new house.

With that done, we dropped my sister-in-law and her boyfriend off, in Fife, and headed on out the
coastal road onto St Andrews. You can see some of the other shot's I took here.

It was a good day all in all, and when you add a nice meal into the equation up in St Andrews, it
more than made up for the horror of having to brave my idea of suburban hell.

The picture, well it wasn't really what I had in mind. I was thinking of going for a light bright
coastal shot. But when I got home I realised that the light wasn't up to it, and instead thought
I'd try something in B&W. In the end all I needed to do was to manipulate the contrast and levels,
and I ended up with this. The sky incidentally is still from the original shot.

And I'm back up to date!

Here's the original.

What a beautiful job of converting to B&W. Amazing sky.

Now, that wouldn't be St. Andrews as in golf, now would it? If it were me, I would never have been able to pass up a trip to St. Andrews without at least a shot or two of the links! You're obviously not a rabid golfer!

But the B&W is great here - makes the sky have lots of depth and character. Very moody shot.

I think the desaturation really works on this. Give the sky more drama, the walkway more contrast and the heather a bit of movement.

One of my favourite places. IKEA.... I'd rather watch Rangers win the league than go there!

It's no surprise that you settled on a dark, moody version after a trip to IKEA. Very nice shot though.

The B&W adds a lot of mood to it. Great!

The B&W is full of strenght !

That looks wild & woolly, Dom. I'm always exhausted after a tour of Ikea..I swear it's ten blocks long !!

ikea-tastic!
Nice shot!

Ooh...the sky looks like a gothic watercolour - very dramatic shot, I like it!

Nice lines - like the B&W here, and a really interesting sky....looks ominous.

A trip to ikea fills me with fear, and I don't have to travel the length of Scotland to get to one!

Really moody photo.

The cloud looks really low and I like the use of B&W
