On Lookout

I see hundreds of black tailed prairie dogs everyday and yet I have rarely tried to get a shot for the
simple reason they are so common and hence seemingly uninteresting. Yet everyday I still enjoy seeing
them and listening to their chatting. I find it interesting how the frequency of their calling grows
more rapid until they bolt for their holes. If you're in the middle of a group of them you can almost
tell your distance from each individual simply by the frequency of their calling.
They are fun to watch, but I gather they carry rabies and bubonic plague so they're not that cute!!!!

Excellent, Dave! Super detail and comp. I appreciate this because we don't have any prairie dogs around here!!

Beautiful capture. Beautiful composition with lovely setting. Love the tone and the expression of the subjects. v

They have a true Meerkat Manor appeal ;-) I don't care if it's just plain sugar; you line it up right, pick a creative PoV and shoot it correctly, it's magic. What's the joy of owning a camera, if that's not true? Great nature shot, especially during the holidays. g

now if your armpits get sore...green like pustules oozing black pus...you know who to blame!! :)

They're still cute critters. Where I grew up, they took over an entire area until the city just built a low wall around the whole field and called it Prairie Dog Town. I used to love going there to watch them when I was little.

Goes to show it's all a matter of perspective. Other than TV, I have never seen one! I find this shot completely fresh and cool. Big V

They are cute, they look almost like sealions from the thumbnail. Nice contrast with the sand and the snow.
