We spent the day at Rocky Mountain National Park and started at a spot we would normally expect to see
some elk. Today we were lucky enough to see about 30 with this bull definitely on top. He chased a few
youngsters off, then continued to ensure his 'harem' was in place. We watched him for about half an
hour, at which point he decided to mount this 'pedestal' to survey the area. By the end of the day we
had seen hundreds of elk, a few mule deer, pika, yellow belly marmot, chipmunks (which were happy to
climb my legs looking for food) and numerous birds. The weather was changeable, so by the time we got
to the end of Trail Ridge there was snow on the ground and more on the way. We left home with the
temperature in the late 70Fs and got to the top of Trail Ridge with the temperature near freezing!!
A great day all round.
NOTE TO BEV: We only did about 250 miles in 10 hours this time!!!!
