Another problem was not enough detail in the fur, which is really hard with black fur. I also thought it looked a bit red - which is a problem I have with the black fur of my Havanese dog. After I opened the image in PS (which followed opening in the raw converter and doing nothing), I clicked on Image/Adjust/Auto Color because I know that setting often makes my images too blue. That adjustment seemed to do just what I needed. There still wasn't enough detail in the fur so I went to LucisArt and first used Exposure at 30%, followed by Wyeth at 30%. It greatly improved the look of the fur. After selectinging and sharpening Savvy I inverted the selection (making sure it didn't go into the pillow) and went to Image/Adjust/Selective Color/Red and added black by moving the white/black slider to the right. The pillow color is still too dominant. I tried other colors and desaturating the red a bit but it didn't look any better. I think it's not a good prop because it takes too much attention. Click on "previous" to see the "before" version. Coat color still looks a bit brown, but after removing the red it looks like it's lacking something. I think this is all right. I just noticed there's a red cast to the shadow under the pillow. That could be easily desaturated.
