The ore was sent down 1,300 vertical feet in buckets on a tram-like cable system similar to a ski lift.
The whole amazing idea of the Keene Wonder Mine is that they used the weight of the heavy ore
on the "ski lift" mechanism to not only easily move the extracted ore down the hill
but they also cleverly used that captured kinetic energy to crush the ore.
A pretty amazing and brilliant feat of engineering;
I had to stop and smile for a while just admiring how exquisitely clever it was.
With that spark of an idea,
I wanted to capture some of the sense of the mechanism that was left in the stark framework of beams
and to express some of the sense of height that put the gravity to work by including the vast valley below.
