DSC_6965_twilight.jpg

looking toward the west

After the sun had set, I heard a helicopter flying this way. I went out the back door and grabbed a few shots. I like to have the rotors blurred....and at this time of the day, blur is virtually assured at Earthly ISO settings with a slowish lens like the 80-400VR. I am firmly convinced that in the making of this photograph,VR helped steady my panning at least a little bit,and so while this photo was not from a perfect pan,nor made from a perfectly stable platform, I think VR actually helped this shot's feeling quite a bit. I've been a big fan and proponent of panning for many years, and believe me, the VR Nikkors are great aids when shooting panning shots. In this shot I am swinging the camera a tiny bit too rapidly, and you can see that by the direction of the smearing. Still, it's a shot that came out with a feeling that I really like.
