DSCF1242_7-55PM.JPG

twilight

The sun had gone down a fair amount of time before this was shot was taken at 7:55 PM. I was going for a twilight sort of feeling, which kind of comes through I think. I was interested in seeing how well the 135 DC could use center-bracket AF on small targets like these chive blooms, so I picked some focus points and used the thumb focus lock button to hold my focus point while I re-composed and shot. I really would like this photo better shot at an aperture that would yield a little bit greater DOF, but 1/45th second was as slow as I felt I could actually steady the camera, and I was too lazy to bring in a tripod. I shot several different white balances while photographing this scene, and AUTO WB was definitely too blue. In fact, at this time of day, AUTO WB often yields a very unsatisfactory look to me, and I would much rather use Shade or a Custom WB in the last 1 hr 15 minutes of the day in my current general area, which is shaded by a fairly large series of hills that run for some miles.
