MOUS-1 (Atlas 5) 24-Feb-2012

February 24, 2012 - After two failed attempts due to weather, a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket launches the first Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite for the U.S. Navy from pad 41, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

The 206-foot-tall Atlas 5 flying in its largest, most powerful configuration to date will deploy the rocket's heaviest payload in history -- the 15,000-pound MUOS 1, which will provide cellphone-like services to U.S. military forces on the move.

Photos taken from Port Canaveral - a distance of 11.5 miles.
