1825: York
Gen. Lafayette visits Globe Inn
Many distinguished people stay at the Globe Inn, located on
York's Centre Square. But none are more famous than
Gen. Marquis de Lafayette. York gives Lafayette a grand
reception on his first visit since the Revolutionary War.
The general returns thanks with a toast "To the Town of York."
Lafayette rides with his son in John Koons' carriage through
York streets as hundreds of people cheer. County residents
also come together in memory of their adopted French son's
passing in 1834
