On our way back to the hotel after the dedication, Dad was interviwed by ABC radio. I heard the reporter ask "What does Memorial Day mean to you?" I didn't hear Dad's answer. I just looked up at the Lincoln Memorial, across the pool to the WWII Memorial and the Washington Monument, and then back at my Dad. I knew that on Memorial Day, Dad would be with his VFW buddies, in a cemetary, honoring the fallen both with their presence, and with the way they live their lives every day.
