Deane-I'm Chuck Dann's kid brother, Dale. As a youngster, I listened to KOMA almost religiously and wanted to become a radio announcer because of my hero brother Chuck and that particular radio station. I met you in the early 60s and just wanted to check in and say that my own year jocking the Big 1520 from 1971-72 while attending the University of Oklahoma was almost as exiting as listening to (and meeting) the original KOMA Good Guys a decade earlier! You and the crew were simply magical. I also remember meeting you again in Cleveland in 1967 at WKYC as you seemed a gluten for punishment by hiring my big brother again, this time for afternoon drive. As you may or may not be aware of, Chuck unfortunately passed away here in Los Angeles in 2007 at the age of 66. For about 40 years, he was known on-air and in the recording studios as Chuck Riley and became one of the top voice over talents in America (CBS, many movie trailers, Ford, Coors, Entertainment Tonight, signature voice of dozens of top radio and TV stations, etc). However, his on-air time at KOMA will always be how I remember him best. After all, his KOMA news open and stagers, I believe, were the training ground for his later VO work! As a teenager I listened to KOMA almost every night for the latest hot records. I also listened to WNOE in New Orleans, WLAC in Nashville for the soul hits and XERB. They don't make em' like that anymore.

moved to sheridan wyo.in 1959 from perryton texas.made a long time friend who was raised on a small cattle operation in big horn wyo.he @ten years old as was i,had already been a koma fan since discovering radio.i spent many summer nights sitting in his brothers car listening to the real don steel and the fred moore roar with the smell of fresh cut alphalpha filling the night air.later in my first car dragging main in sheridan from the 4u drive in out north to the top of court house hill and our college street u turn so.main and do it all over again.koma was allways there sometimes fading for abit then back clear and strong.my favorite reverberating add went like this.all the records given away were given away in cooperation and concideration of recording artists companys and distributors,yours truly koma oklahoma city.....i still dial around 1520 in my shop late at night knowing i will only find mexican music,which i kinda like because icant understand it and the beat is good.i still cruise my model a on sat.night in kingman az.and its good and we have good radio to tune in,but i miss those days in sheridan with my girl and now wife of 44 years.we were indeed just like american graffiti.

I was a teenager in the 60's in North Dakota, KOMA at night was one of the loudest signals on the band. Still remenber the KOMA Kissing Tone and the updates for the "Fabulous Flippers"! What a station, I bet they showed up in ratings! Jack Davis X NODAK

KOMA was the station all of the teenagers listened to growing up in Sheridan, Wyoming. I listened to KOMA from 1957 to well into the 1960's. KOMA would even show up in the radio rating books for Sheridan! In the fall of 1963 one of the local Sheridan stationary stores bought time on KOMA selling school supplies. The nighttime signal was quite strong into Sheridan. During the winter, the signal would start to come in about noon. No doubt about it, KOMA was my favorite station.

my first job in radio was at KOMA in 1959 ...I did part time fill in and changed the church tapes on Sunday morning and then pulled a shift on Sunday afternoon...I was hired by the great Rod Roddy ..Jack Sampson was GM, Don Bruce,Kirby Kane were two of the names that come to mind as on the air guys. I was a college kid at OU and if I remeber right I was paid 5 dollars an hour

Deane: I spent most of my life in Chickasha. As a teenager I spent many hours listening to KOMA. However, I lived in Casper, Wyoming from September 1961 through November 1962. At night KOMA was the most listened to radio station in Casper. In the daytime many of us listened to KIMM in Rapid City. Although, Chuck Buell tried to talk down KOMA, it continued to be the leader in Casper, even ahead of other good programs, such as Pogo Poge in Denver. I certainly remember the years of automation. At first I was disappointed that Rod Roddy and the other guys left, but I quickly came to enjoy you and Chuck. Until I ran across this website, you were just an abstraction from the past. Now seeing pictures of you, you are real. Good Luck, Ron York
