8/4/2004 - I have socks that old!

When I see the age of so many wonderful pbase photographers, one of my reactions is "I have socks that old!" I thought about that today as I was sorting socks -- white jock socks, at that. I sometimes wonder if most men wouldn't prefer to hop around on a single foot if it meant no more sock sorting. I wonder if there's a sock sorting machine -- could be a real hit for single men. (Wouldn't do college guys any good, since they don't wash anything anyhow.)

I used to have a pair of old boots that allowed me to say "I've got boots older than you" to 16 year olds... wish I hadn't thrown them out....

Washing them is the source of the problem! I like Julie Quinn's solution -- periodically throw them all out and replace them with a bag of new ones. Once I tried to have at least two week's supply of socks, and underwear (i.e., I had a housekeeper who came every two weeks.) Now, I'm thinking of, say, three month's supply -- wouldn't have to sort anything except the mail.

Great sock shot! Looks like it's straight from the washer.
One solution: every once in a while you need to wash them, right? Don't worry, they all end up sooner or later down the rinse drain.

This is nicely done. I love all the colors and textures. My hubby solves the sock-sorting problem by buying a huge bag of sports socks every couple of years (and throwing out any already in the drawer, most of which are pretty icky by that time anyway). This way, they all match. Well, they all match until he has a laundry oops and ends up with some tinged pink, some tinged blue... I have some 20-year-old Converse high-tops to go with your old socks!
