The name may be misleading. This is a window-light, hand held copy of a 115-film size print found in a family album belonging to my wife's aunt. My wife's grandfather who died in 1948 was born in 1872 and became a Sally Army officer. That's not him in the middle of this shot, but the location is Rotherham in Yorkshire (Clark, photographers, Frederick Street) and this is obviously an important visit by a black gospel or S.A. singing group from the USA. I was interested to see the wire-strung guitar with the capo, in the hands of an already elderly player. The date could be 1900-1914 period (the dresses look right for that) but the print looks more like an early 1920s example. Perhaps the clothes for the group remained very conservative. I used the CZ16-80mm lens at 60mm, with SSS, and it's not a bad copy for a quick snap leaning over the print. Any information on groups of this type which visited Britain, to help identify them, would be of great interest.
