From the ground, where I am standing, the NW view is already interesting, looking as it does across
White Bay toward Hunters Hill and Woolwich. Apartments looking this way may even have risen in
value over the last five years ago. White Bay was until recently one of the last major cargo
handling facilities in Sydney Harbour. Now it lies pretty much lifeless, awaiting future applications
while politicians and developers scramble for position. Commercial shipping has now almost entirely
been removed from the harbour due to traffic congestion, air and water quality concerns, ease and
speed of cargo movements for road and rail transport and real estate greed (of course). It has all
moved south to the huge Port Botany facility. A major oil spill in this part of the harbour, a few
years back, pretty much sealed White Bay's fate. One possible use may be a second purpose-designed
passenger ship terminal. Time will tell.
This green reserve follows the waterfront all the way around Pyrmont. Looks like a good way to go.
Thos big iron ball thingames look interesting.
