A common theme among the memorials is Parramatta's penal colony history and to the very earliest
years of its establishment. Parramatta was the seat of government and the location for the first
successful food production. There are wonderful snippets of information, curious anecdotes and quotes
from early colonial records carved into a variety of metal plaques and artworks by the riverside.
