Almost all of the very oldest of Australia's oldest and most significant historical buildings and
structures are to be found in Parramatta and most of THOSE are in Parramatta Park, including the
original colonial observatory (undergoing restoration on this occasion), historic farm buildings
and gardens along with a host of early memorials. I realise that to continue in this vein will take
me most of the day, time I don't have ... and so I walk down to the Parramatta River.
The Parramatta River is not a huge waterway today but in eons past it must have been really something,
given that its passage ultimately carved out the submerged valley which is the world famous Sydney
Harbour. In effect the beginnings of Sydney Harbour are right before me now.
