WCS1919.jpg

Eventually the main pathway (hitherto marked by arrow posts in the rock) entered saltbush territory
and we were left to find our way as best we could. Remarkably some of these species of sand scrub must
be fast growing or given to sudden growth spurts. A trail such as you see illustrated, suddenly
ended against a wall of tall saltbush at one point, convincing us we must have somehow wandered
from the main route. We backtracked quite a way but could find no clue as to how we had gone astray.
It became quite frustrating. Eventually i decided to plow headlong into the saltbush to see what
(if anything) lay beyond. After a short struggle, to my surprise the path was found to continue as
before. Gerry told me later that in my threshing progress I had completely disappeared from view.
That is easy to understand, given that as I engaged the bush, some unseen branch had tripped me up,
causing me to fall flat on my face (well almost). Never mind folks, the camera was protected at all
times. No equipment was harmed in the making of this adventure.
