Desert Dweller

The woman standing in front of the faded Bagdad Cafe sign is comfortable in her own skin, at ease living in a remote and arid landscape. Like water, she has sought and found her own level. Most of us, should we find ourselves in similar circumstances, might want to desert such an environment. Yet don't we all, at times, wander in deserts of our making, in own minds?

When I saw the letters CA, I thought of the abreviation for the state of California and the woman as the personification of a Californian.
I think of global warming and how this image represents a possible climate future for all of California.
I think of how most people imagine California in terms of Hollywood; actors and actresses with smooth skin, terrified of wrinkles, having botox parties to banish age lines, and forever wandering in a desert of false dreams of youth and good looks.

Nice to see that the Baghdad Cafe has weathered the harsh weather of the desert since i've seen it! The woman as well but not sure if I've seen her before (she does look familiar. Does she work there?) I agree with Phil saying that the portrait does match the backdrop sign. The colors are so warm and inviting as well, something we don't think of in the desert. Wonderful shot, Dave!

Beautifully said, in both word and picture, Dave. Both the sign and the woman have weathered all that the desert could throw at them, yet both survive, each ruggedly beautiful in their own way.
