El Vado Motel, Albuquerque

After visiting Chaco, we returned to Albuquerque. We spent the night in the motel that looks much as it did in the 1930s, when travelers made their way east and west along famed Route 66.

Oh my gosh!

I am 55 years old or young, but when I ran accross this photo I just about lost it. I can't believe this super dooper motel still exists! I was 7 years old when we passed through Albuquerque. Of all the motels we stayed in on that vacation, I remembered this one only. I was facinated by the kewl looking facade. I did some more research and found that it was almost destroyed by "progress". So glad that they decided to preserve this American Treasure!
