I am browsing this gallery in anticipation of our 2007 Indian Country trip, Dave -- and you are stirring the soul with images such as this. I love this image as much as Tom Talbot -- the juxtaposition of that white horse and cloudscape is quite moving. It makes me think of the last scene of Elia Kazan's 1952 film "Viva Zapata." Great film -- Marlon Brando and Antony Quinn are unforgettable in a script by John Steinbeck. At the end, just after Zapata is murdered, Kazan gives us a metaphorical scene much like this (only in black and white) featuring a riderless white horse as Zapata's spirit roaming the Mexican landscape .

Dave, We drove on a backroads adventure following the footsteps of one of the recommended journeys from your first book last weekend, I took a couple of photos of horses in their most natural environment that I was very proud of. I'm now burning them - this photo is a painting and even though I continuously complement your art I have to tell you this photo above others captures me - if there is anyone who is trying to find where the fine line between taking photographs and artistry lies, here is a photo that clearly separates the two. Tom
