This is a wonderful picture, Dave. I've been having a debate about the very issue that Tom raises here regarding the amount of Redwood you really need to express a size incongruity. I chose to represent it with even less bark than you do here. Here is my image, along with my response to my critic, who, by the way is a good friend, and someone who loves to get me going!http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/35601783.
I have another image of the giant sequoias in the same gallery http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/35601775) with a lot more trunk in play, which gives added context to other image that came later.
This helps answer one of the toughest photography questions about Yosemite - "how do you photograph the Giant Sequoia"? - Really beautiful shot that puts the size of the tree in context yet doesn't attempt to take it on by getting the entire tree into the photo. I learned a great deal on this trip with you, and this lesson was truly one of the most valuable.
