Josiah Sheppard was my uncle. My father Albert Sheppard lost an arm during this war.

John Cooper 1880-1915, was my gt-Uncle and Frank (Francis) 1878-1916, on the same memorial, was my grandfather. You can find them on my Kingsclere Families website.

These pictures bring back many memories of holidays in Ecchinswell in the 1940s. My gt-Aunt Sarah Hunt (Cooper) lived in Mill Lane opposite the Mill and gt-Aunt Alice Cooper (Smith) ran the Laundry with assistance from my two Aunts Doris & Hilda Cooper.

This photograph shows the railings around the memorial, which were removed during the Second World War (to be use for armaments!) It is quite a rare photograph, and in poor condition, but I have tried to restore it as it was badly creased across the front.
The original was kindly donated by my Aunt - May Calder - a long time resident of Ecchinswell.

My ancestors lived in Ecchinswell, but none of them were Coopers. So the John Cooper named on this memorial is no relation. Just a coincidence.
But very interesting none the less.
