Bat Star (Patiria miniata)

Point Loma

The bat star is a medium-sized five-armed seastar with its short arms broadly joined, giving a webbed appearance. It is found under rocks and varies between shades of red, yellow, or purple. In many areas this animal has caught the eye of collectors, resulting in the depletion of bat stars from much of their former range.

Originally taken with a film camera, these were scanned from my slides and converted. hide exif
