Chieu Hoi back

The back has a photo of the President of South Vietnam, as well as a friendly ARVN soldier welcoming a former VC and pointing the way to freedom and redemption. In reality, Allied soldiers were more likely to shoot first and check Chieu Hoi passes later, for fear of a suicide attack.

Can you say execution or re-education camp?

His gear would have been taken away and he would have been thoroughly quizzed, probably for several days, and possibly using a little "persuasion" to help him give interrogators answers. I hope the Chieu Hois really did eventually get what they were promised...but then, what happened to them in 1975??
