Did any of us feel adequately prepared? Oh, Hell no! We knew all about making beds, carrying bedpans and doing other ward duties. We just didn't know much about treating wounds, shock, starting an IV (we just practiced on a rubber tube, not real people). All of that was more theoretical than real. For those of us who drew the infantry straw, we had a lot of catching up to do on the job after we got there. It was an adventure.
