You can see where the different floods have gotten up the bridge footing quite a bit. Now I think if you jump off the bridge the mud below would cushion your fall and you would have to dig yourself out and try another place. :-) John

Thanks Troy for the other picture in Pending. I decided that picture was a Cat Tails picture with a bridge in it.

Thanks Cat, Penny, TV and Rod. It was a very nice and warm but overcast day for Jan. I got out of the car (Theresa wishing she had brought a book), and took one from farther down so that I could get the whole bridge without any obstructions. Perfect documentation picture ... you could probably take measurements from it. This group is wearing off on me because I wasn't quite satisfied with the result. So I walked down the bank and noticed these fine Cat Tails and that I still had a significant amount of bridge I could shoot. So I took this shot. This is quality 4. Seeing it at full res you can see the softness and fine detail in the Cat Tails and the rough rust on the bridge. Then I remembered the contest. So I took a picture up close to the Cat Tails to see their texture while shooting the bridge ... for the purpose of art. It is a nice shot (pending) but in the end, this is the shot I am most satisfied with ... because it is me the technical guy with a little softness mixed in from the influence of this group. Thanks. John

I really like the subtle colouring of this picy, it works well for a good feel. Well done John.

Southern Gothic. Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge, and isn’t it a shame. Maybe - but that bridge was in Mississippi.
Nice photo~!

This looks like there could be many stories connected to it.. like the Tallahatchi bridge of Billie Joe fame. -tv

Very nice and natural looking colors. I like the angle and comp of you photo, with proper foreground and background. The sky has a very natural blue. The rusted beams with graffiti on it also tells the history of this bridge. Great choice of subject here.

Carpenter's Bluff Bridge was originally built in 1910 as a railroad bridge for the Missouri, Oklahoma, and Gulf line. Its design also included a wagon shelf, and extra lane to serve travelers on foot and horseback, as well as horse-drawn vehicles, all of whom had to pay a toll for its use. It was turned into a single lane bridge in 1965 that serves for free, a connection across the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma. It has survived several massive floods that others haven't.
